Don and I saw the film, “Woman in Gold” –  a spectacular film on the art of Gustav Klimt and the Nazi theft of his paintings from a Jewish family from Vienna.  The movie focuses on the story of Maria Altmann, an Austrian-Jewish refugee,  who fought against the Austrian government from 1998 to 2003 to recover paintings of Gustav Klimt.

Gustav Klimt, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer. 1907

Adele Bloch-Bauer was Maria Altmann’s aunt and the subject of many of Klimt’s most valuable paintings.  5 paintings of Klimt were confiscated from Maria’s family by the National Socialist government.

Showing at Albany Twin Theater on Solano.
