Paul Gauguin, “Self-Portrait Dedicated to Vincent van Gogh” (Les Misérables)
Someone said that all artists at some point need to create a self-portrait.
Everyone’s thoughts go to Van Gogh or Frida Kahlo, even though that’s not the only thing they painted. I thought of them too.
The strong bold colors and textures. Their eyes and how they look at us, even if obliquely.
I also thought of the dark Rembrandts that show a subtle smile.
But for some reason, I kept coming back to Gauguin. This one in particular is dedicated to Vincent Van Gogh.
Wouldn’t a self-portrait be dedicated to one’s self? (Ana Perches)
