Ana Perches

Mexico’s Other Frida.  We all know Frida but she was not alone.

Her fellow artist Maria Izquierdo did some bold art, including self-portraits.

Like Frida, she had a lover who was to become one of Mexico’s famous artists, Rufino Tamayo. But she held her own ground and they influenced one another.

She later suffered a stroke and lost agility in her right hand. Her last name, Izquierdo, means “left” as opposed to “right”.

She died in her 50’s, like Frida.

Life is too damn short.
