The Unmade Bed is a photo by Imogen Cunningham (1883-1976). Cunningham was an active photographer until her death in 1976 when she was 93 years old! She took this photograph when she was 74 following a directive from another great woman photographer, Dorothea Lange (1895-1965). Lange suggested that she take a simple photograph of her surroundings. One morning, after getting out of bed, Cunningham tossed her hairpins on the bed, saw the great light and forms and took this photograph.
