THE MISSION

  1. To encourage the artist to validate and value their own identity as artist.
  2. To show respect for their own art by showing our art professionally.
  3. To commit to making new pieces of art at least four times a year.
  4. To commit to creating a community of artists.
  5. To commit to attending salons, evaluating art, and challenging each other to make unique and meaningful pieces of art.

In 2014, two artists, Maureen Fitzmahan and Erin Mahollitz, started an art movement on the east shore of the San Francisco Bay.  Six artists were invited to an art salon.  They weren’t professional artists, but they were eager to make art and to meet other artists.  Each artist came to the salon bringing a newly created work of art reflecting a theme.  The artists were inspired and influenced by one another’s art.

Five years later, the Art Junket has expanded to 14 members.  The art salon is a meeting of talent and thought where the members have developed friendship and trust. It is a place where artists can take risks and feel supported.

The Annual Exhibition celebrates the works created during the Art Junket’s latest series. The Art Junket Exhibition, first held in a garage in Berkeley, has grown into an official gallery show at Oakland’s Art Murmur.

In 2019 The Art Junket expanded the movement to the East Coast.  The first Hudson Valley Art Junket salon was held in January 2019 in upstate New York.
